an adventure outfitter based in Marble Canyon, Arizona
Located in Marble Canyon, Arizona—often referred to as the Gateway to the Grand Canyon—Kayak the Colorado provides visitors with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to kayak the Colorado River from the base of Glen Canyon Dam at Lees Ferry. As the company continues to grow, they needed a brand identity and website that reflected a more elevated and professional image while preserving the authentic, river-camping spirit that has earned the loyalty of their customers. Although the team is small, they have ambitious plans to expand their services and grow their business, making a scalable and cohesive brand presence essential.
Kayak the Colorado strives to create immersive outdoor experiences that connect visitors with the natural beauty and rich history of the Colorado River. More than a guided kayaking tour, each adventure is designed to bring guests closer to iconic landmarks like Horseshoe Bend, hidden beaches, and ancient Ancestral Puebloan petroglyphs, offering a perspective that can't be experienced from above. By blending adventure, education, and breathtaking scenery, the company aims to inspire exploration while creating unforgettable memories in one of the nation's most remarkable landscapes.
The visual identity was inspired by the dramatic landscapes of Northern Arizona and the Colorado River corridor. Rather than relying on the typical greens associated with outdoor recreation brands, I developed a color palette drawn from the warm sandstone cliffs, deep canyon shadows, and the vibrant blue-green waters of the river. This approach creates a distinctive look that feels both adventurous and refined while capturing the essence of the destination.
For the logo, I focused on balancing professionalism with a sense of exploration. Clean, modern typography paired with organic graphic elements evokes the flow of the river and the surrounding canyon landscape, resulting in a mark that feels timeless, approachable, and memorable. The identity was designed to appeal to both first-time adventurers and returning visitors seeking an authentic Colorado River experience.
The website extends this visual language through immersive photography, generous white space, and a clear content hierarchy that places the experience at the forefront. Large imagery showcases the scale and beauty of the canyon while guiding users through available tours, trip details, and booking information with ease. The interface was designed to build excitement while giving visitors the confidence to plan their adventure.
Supporting brand elements—including topographic textures, river-inspired graphics, and natural patterns—create a cohesive identity across digital and print applications. Together, these elements reinforce Kayak the Colorado's mission of offering unforgettable journeys through one of the Southwest's most iconic landscapes.
